Common Admission Test, also known as CAT is a computerized MBA entrance test, designed to test the aptitude and comprehensive capabilities of a student. This test is one-way ticket to get admission into IIMs; it is also accepted by most renowned MBA colleges in India. More than 2.5 lakhs students apply for this test every year, making it the most applied for test for MBA entrance. The application or exam form filling process starts from the first week of August and the exam takes place in November. Being an online exam, there are about 400 test centers in more than 158 cities across India.
Before 2019, there were 100 questions for CAT and the time limit for completing the test was 3 hours. There were 2 slots for the exam, commonly said, the morning slot, and the evening slot.
From 2020 onwards there were changes in the pattern of CAT Exam. Now, there are 3 slots for the examination: morning, Afternoon, and Evening. The number of questions was reduced to 66 and the time allotted was also reduced to 2 hours.
The result of CAT is declared in the first week of January. This exam score in the form of percentile is accepted by most of the colleges offering MBA/PGDM courses. The top IIMs accepting CAT scores are; IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, and IIM Indore. Some of the top non- IIMs that care accepting CAT Score are FMS New Delhi, IMI New Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, GIM Goa.
For CAT 2022, the form filling process will start from the first week of August, and the last day to fill the form will be the third week of September (tentative). There can be a further extension in the application date, as seen in the previous years. The admit card can be downloaded from the official site from the last week of October (tentative). This will be a 2-hour exam with a total of 66 questions to be answered. There will be three sections in the exam: Quantitative Ability (QA), Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation (LRDI), Reading Comprehension (RC).
The timing for the morning slot of CAT 2022 is 8:30 am to 10:30 am, the timing for the afternoon slot is 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm and the timing for the evening slot is 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
